Why did you start writing vampire romance?

I fell in love with vampires in my teen years. I find them endlessly fascinating because they're immortal, seductive, dangerous, and yet capable of extraordinary love. Oh, and they can be gorgeous!  I watched "Dark Shadows" when I was young, loved "Dracula" by Bram Stoker and then Dracula on stage. I was hooked on every series from "The Vampire Diaries" and "True Blood" to "Twilight", "Let the Right One In" and "Interview with a Vampire", etc.

I also enjoy fantasy stories and movies immensely.

How often do you release books?

I write complete series (usually 4 books) and so it depends.  I try to release a series every three months but sometimes it's faster and sometimes it's slower... depending on what's going on in my life and how easily the characters develop for me.

I usually have a core idea of what I the book to be about and then work at developing a story arc that makes sense and has drama and mystery and love... and then write it!

Those on my newsletter list get a heads-up about a new book and are invited to be an ARC reader (Advanced reader copy).

Do you write happily-ever-afters?

Always!  Love makes the world go round, and no matter how much drama, angst and mystery is going on, the stories always leads to a HEA.

• Which vampire hero is your favorite?

This is a hard question, similar to asking which is your favorite child!  Having said that, I love all of them when I am writing them but three stand out. Julian in “The Immortal’s Lie” is just delicious. Adrian in “The Vampire’s Curse at Blackthorn Manor” is so French and seductive. And Luka in “Blood & Guilt”… I just want to hug him.

• Which secondary character steals the show?

Many readers mention Leo d’Arcy in “the Light of Blood”, Loki the shifter in “The Blood Collector”, Axel the chef in “Vampire Island of Nightfall” and Azriel the fae warrior in “The Immortal’s Lie” to name just a few. I’m sure both Finn and Charlie are going to get the distinction in my upcoming series “Bloodhaven Cove.”

• What inspired Charlie in “Bloodhaven Cove”?

Charlie is a Groenendaal (Belgian shepherd) who is telepathic and a scene-stealer! He is inspired by my own Groenendaal girl Megan who is at this writing 18 years old and very wise.

• Are any of your settings inspired by true life?

Absolutely!  I love Montenegro and Croatia and include these settings in some of my more recent works, including “Blood & Guilt” and “Bloodhaven Cove" (book 4).  

I grew up in the Midwest but fell in love with New York when I was young and visited. I worked there when I was in my late twenties and early thirties, and have several books set there for the energy.  I lived in Paris, France and have often had my characters visit that city or include flashbacks with vampires remembering life there. Same with Venice and New Orleans.  I live in Florida and love the beach life, and so several stories bring in the beach… but usually in more terrifying ways!
